How are you all doing today? The sun is out here in Paris and so are the masses. I’m so thankful not to be freezing my tush off anymore!

At first I didint want to post these photos because I’m not very happy with them, as there wasnt enough lighting.We took them as a quick shot after I dropped Pierre off at school. This is a part of his courtyard.

But I hope they can still be a bit inspirational of how all you need is a pair of nice jeans, some sexy shoes and some killer accessories like my Marni-esque clutch and my oversized mens watch.

Who owns the red shoe sole?

Can you tell the difference?

The famous French footwear designer Christian Louboutin has entered into a litigation war with iconic french couture house Yves Saint Laurent, for what it claims to be infringement on the use of their ”red sole” design on shoes.

According to business week “Louboutin, based in Paris, said Yves Saint Laurent is selling shoes with red soles that are “virtually identical” to its own, according to a suit filed today in federal court in Manhattan. It seeks a court injunction against the sale of the shoes and damages of at least $1 million.”

So far Yves Saint Laurent , the company that is now owned by Paris-based PPR,  has no comments. Let’s see what evolves as the weeks progress.

Colette + Chanel

Parisian “cool” shop Colette will be teaming up with fashion powerhouse Chanel to present a pop-up store including pieces from Chanel and young Up & coming designers curated by Colette.

We’ll let the press release take over from here “fashion, visual arts and musical performances, resulting in a fun-fuelled, creative mix by Chanel and Colette with a rock ‘n’ roll vibe. The headlining creations from Chanel Spring-Summer 11 collection will be juxtaposed with a selection from young designers chosen by Colette. Classic Chanel bags and this season’s bag designs will be originally customised by various artists.  ÉRES [the swimwear brand owned by Chanel] will be included in the mix with pieces from its collection in a palette of black and iridescent hues that will beautifully contrast with Maison MICHEL’s spotted veils. Also waiting to be discovered, or rediscovered, is a selection of books published byÉditions 7L and back issues of Visionaire magazine. ”

I can tell you from experience that these shoes are like walking on heaven, seriously I should do a ” I can’t believe its wicker” ad , similar to the “I can’t believe its not butter ads. You can see photos of me wearing my Yves Saint Laurent Wedge sandals here.

I have about 3 denim shirts already and just bought another one on sale at Zara. I break down for a sales, like I get all weak in the knees and wallet!

I’m in love with big bold jewelry. I feel naked without something shinny and these fulfill my need to be colorful too! by Marc by Marc Jacobs.   These boots are by Marc Jacobs too and I was so psyched to grab them at Galleries Lafayette in my size! They are like my everyday shoes now – they go with everything from skirts to jeans.

I want some red Jeans (already have red pants), I’ve been itching to find the perfect fit, even if  just to wear them with the red pair of slim-fit pants I got for my son recently.

I saw this lady during the last PFW and I love the mix of a white t-shirt, black blazer and red leather pants.

And I’m going out shopping for a Fur coat this weekend (sorry PETA!). I’ll post the pics if I find anything nice.

“Yves Saint Laurent et Le Maroc”, (YSL and Morocco) is on exhibition at the Musee du Jardin Marjorelle in Marrakech until March 18, 2011.

I had the pleasure of seeing the 40 exquisite pieces from the French designer are on display in the Marjorelle Museum, some designs dating back to as far as 1967, the year after Yves Saint Laurent arrived in Marrakech.

Yves Saint Laurent is remembered as saying “ When I discovered Marrakech, it was an extraordinary surprise. This town taught me about colors” in the video documentary that plays in one of the four rooms of the museum accompanying the clothed mannequins.

The Jardin Marjorelle is one of the most beautiful gardens in Morocco, but when the famous couturier Yves Saint Laurent rescued it in 1980 with Pierre Berger, it was in ruins. Over the years, they have restored the gardens and the buildings while creating a mythic location where Yves felt totally at home; could work on his designs, relax and vacation with friends.

It was his love for Morocco and Marrakech that enabled him to stay, rebuild and create a sanctuary for his personal life and artistic creations. This is evident in his designs of the 1960s and some of the 190s when he stylized traditional Islamic garments such as the Red Djellaba adorned with gold tapestry from his 1976 collection.

Many of the old personal photos on display show snapshots of Yves with friends, working and having fun back through the course of their lives together in Morocco. They are cleverly annotated from this period by hand written notes by his long time partner Pierre Berger. You feel like you are flipping through something so personal, its privileged.

It is without saying that this is one of the most monumental collected displays of works from a great Couturier of the 20^th century in an African country.

The garments are sublime. What else would you expect from the man who coined the phrase “ fashions fade but style is eternal”?

It is certainly worth a trip to this warm exotic location. Especially if flying from the European cities such as Paris or London, where flights are inexpensive and frequent.

You’ll go in excited and wowed by the share passion in the use of color and cut of the dresses, the bling-bling of the jewels (long before bling was in), you’ll want to lean closer, look at all the fine details, even smell the beauties.

Oh well, maybe you won’t, but I sure did!

Inside the Museum I was not allowed to take photographs but:

The documentary with the YSL voice over tells of his story and how Marrakech in particular has influenced his life and his introduction to using “color”. Nothing could be more evident that the explosion of what I like to call “Jungle” colors bold greens, browns, pinks and yellow.

Looking at the capes, gowns, skirts, I felt like I wanted to sit down and have tea with this man/genius. How is it that he could create such clothes that could transform any woman into a glamazon?

Yves is the original king of Fabulosity. Every piece of clothing looked like they had just been created the day before for the museum. Better than many pieces I’ve seen at Fashion Week presentations.

I’m beyond impressed and if you’re not yet a fan of the man that refined the (le Smoking) women’s pants suit for the modern woman, or the man that made the safari jacket fashionable (la Saharienne), or the man that can drape a dress on a woman’s body to play up all her assets, this exposition will convert you.

The short safari jacket is  reminiscent of the young Brigitte Bardot style and the early years of Yves Saint Laurent.

I figured I really have to get something now, you know in honor of the late great. And that I did , i bought a pair of peach and white lather stilettos circa 2004 ( I’m guessing, don’t ask me what they were still doing with shoes from back in the hay day, i really didn’t care as they were whispering my feet and calling my name to rescue them from this unstable sample sale home. So i did and now they are chez moi!

Saint Laurent was born August 1, 1936, in Oran, Algeria.
He changed the way modern women dressed. His introduction of the tailored men’s suit type for women was a big hit and revolutionized the way women dressed.

At the young age of 21 after the death of Christian Dior, he was put in charge to run things in 1957.

He left Dior in 1961 and opened his own couture house, in 1962.

In 1999, he sold the rights to the YSL brand to Gucci for $70 million, and Tom Ford designed the ready-to-wear collection while Saint-Laurent designed the haute couture collection.

The Associated Press reports that “

After retirement, Saint Laurent spoke of his battles with depression, drugs and loneliness, though he gave no indication that those problems were directly tied to his decision to stop working.

“I’ve known fear and terrible solitude,” he said. “Tranquilizers and drugs, those phony friends. The prison of depression and hospitals. I’ve emerged from all this, dazzled but sober.”"

His funeral is set to take place this Thursday at the Saint Roch Church in central Paris.
