You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger

Living in Paris I’ve acquired (from my Parisian neighbors) a love, if not a devote following of Woody Allen films. You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger is my recent favorite.

It’s set in London and my favorite character is Gemma Jones (Helena), partially for her quirky character and partly for her very vintage styled wardrobe. Without giving too much of the film away Jones plays a woman going through a recent separation( dumped by her husband for a younger life/wife) who lives by the readings of her faux-physic.

I kept thinking about her old-school British Lady like style; her glove collection seemed as varied as my shoe collection.

Helena and Her Gloves

I can see women going back to the days when gloves where a necessary accessory, even in the summer time.

Ok, wait I know what you’re going to say ” It’s so impractical!”

Well, it’s not really if you think about it. In fashion and our everyday lives “Everything old is new again” and of course they’ll always be exception to the rules, but for the most part most women follow fashion trends, and this will become a trend.

I see a future in all types of gloves, not just ones for the winter; IPhone gloves, for example, are a necessary accessory for our modern day lives.

And soon the variations will be numerous because really  a very easy and inexpensive way to spruce up any outfit is to put some nice or interesting gloves on.

Case in point Madonna, Michael Jackson and Rihanna or that lady I saw the other day with her Cape and long leather gloves.

I thought  the movie was very Woody Allen – you know its kind of reuses a lot of stereotypical characters he’s used in his past work. But for an adult comedy, it will give you much to think about.

It’s not a great film but its good enough.

And it doesn’t hurt to see two very well styled characters, Antonio Banderas (Greg Clemente) and Frieda Pinto (Dia), again.

If you’re in Paris its showing at the M2K Beaubourg in English with French Subtitles.

Coco before Chanel with Audrey Tautou

Coco Avant Chanel (original title)/ also called Coco Before Channel is set to be released soon, perhaps in April of this year and I just can’t wait to see it. It stars the magical Audrey Tautou from Amelie ( the original title in French was Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain).

It’s seriously one of the best darn movies ever made, her role was paramount to its success. If you love Kitch, Paris and the little intricacies that make up life you need see this movie now ( don’t put it off for seven years like I did). I watched it last Wednesday night on French public TV, Paris Premiere.

It will take you into the train stations of Paris, the Bars of Monmartre and tiny french streets filled with people bustling around to buy fresh grocery or just sipping on some Kir and people watching – this movie was one only a good story teller could tell, Jean-Pierre Jeunet is a master story weaver. And I can’t wait to see Audrey in a role that’s once again challenging yet monument, Coco Chanel changed fashion and the lives of so many women in the making.

here’s some pictures from the upcoming film staring Audrey Tatou, directed by Anne Fontaine.
So cute!
