ELLE FRANCE: Collectors Edition Lacks Color

I think this issue made me want to respect Elle Paris a bit more because it featured fresh content; pages and pages of portraits from some of the most talented people I admire in the fashion industry such as Victoire de Castellane, Marc Jacobs, Martin Sitbon, Stefano Pilati and Isabel Marant.

Designers that are a bit quirky, off beat, non-the-less exceptional and who chart their own territory.

But I was quickly brought back to reality and very disappointed because they didn’t bother to put a “token” black model in the mix.

The cover featured five all white and seemingly blond models Iselin Steiro, Kasia Struss, Natasha poly, Daria Strokous and Ginta Lapina.

Goes to show that we still have a long way to go in terms of diversity in the fashion industry, especially here in France.

I’m not asking for all black issues, or all white issues, but beauty is diverse and that’s not represented here.

Below, are some of my favorite portraits from the batch of designers. Click on thumbnails to see larger images.  The image quality is a bit shady, because I couldn’t get my scanner to work so I took photos of the photos.

Parisian Chic by Ines de la Fressange

A style guide to dressing like a Parisian.

Red Book cover Parisian Chic Ines

Have you every wondered how to get that cool, sexy or rather classic Parisian look? Well, you’re in luck because long time model and ex-Chanel muse Ines de la Fressange break its down in a cheeky little red book with sketches and streetsyle photos of her and her daughter Nine, wearing some signature Parisian Looks.

I believe ( and so does Ines) that every woman should a wardrobe on certain key pieces ( 7 for her) and the rest is a matter of accessories; shoes, bags, jewelry etc.

Think about it, you can wear one black dress many ways depending on the belt, shoes and bags that you chose to go with it.

HILARY ALEXANDER INTERVIEWS ANDREJ PEJIC

Not many males models can grab the attention of the fashion world the way that  BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA born Andrej has done in the past week at Fashion weeks in London and Paris.

Leave it to Hilary to dive into the matters many people are so blasé about ( previous topics included diversity on the catwalks, weight concerns etc)- like this “gorgeous gender-bender with great bone structure”.

He says he’d get a sex change for Victoria’s Secret.

Chanel Iman in Elle UK

Style Inspiration from Elle UK

I’m thankful for fashion shoots that focus on the clothes these days – Chanel Iman, is a model, some people seem to forget that it is a models job is to make it all about the clothes. I remember being at Wilhelmina in NYC and they would use the phrase ” clothes hangers” all the time!

Who cares if she has the same facial expression in all the shots, I certainly don’t. Photos by David Vasiljevic

Now lets talk about the clothes!

I Love how Raf Simons is redefining effortless elegance in a fun way with the neons from this season.  I can wear a plain white t-shirt with anything!

Chanel Iman Calvin Klein Elle UK Feb 2011

Karl Lagerfeld is a genius. Everything her creates at Fendi makes my body yearn. I want to have a corner office and VIP meetings just to wear these.
